Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have any novels you'd recommend?

Quite a few, actually. Here's a list of my favorite 100 books. Like most writers, I was a voracious reader long before I ever considered writing my own stories and I still spend more time reading than writing.

Are you going to write another book?

Yes, I am. It's already finished, as a matter of fact. It will be called The World in Shadow and you can even read an excerpt from it. I'm now working on the third book in the series, The Wrath of Angels.

When is The Wrath of Angels going to come out?

Well, I'm supposed to turn it in sometime around August 15, 2003. That means that the soonest it will probably be available will be March 2004. These things take a while, unfortunately. In the meantime, do check out some of the short stories here on the web site.

What makes a book "Christian"?

In my opinion, and there are certainly Christian bookstores and publishers who will disagree with this, the only characteristic which serves to identify a book as "Christian" is one that is written from the foundational perspective that the resurrected Jesus Christ is the Lord and Savior of humanity. All else is irrelevant, which means that there are many books respectful of traditional customs and morality which should not be considered specifically Christian, whereas a book full of sex, violence, and profanity might quite justifiably be characterized as a Christian work.

The notion of "good" winning out over "evil" is also irrelevant in this regard. Thus I regard The Matrix, for all its sensational violence, as a spiritually profound Christian parable, whereas I see the Harry Potter series as an entertaining, but amoral tale that is not so much about a battle between good and bad, but between varying forms of worldly evil.

How do the various ranks of angels relate to each other?

There have been many hierarchies of angels produced over the last two millenia; the one that I used was a modified version of the one created by St. Jerome. It goes as follows, from greatest to least:

1. Seraphim
2. Cherubim
3. Principalities
4. Dominations
5. Powers
6. Archangels
7. Angels

Various types can fit within each rank, of course. Kaym's status is unclear from the text of the book. He is obviously more than a mere angel, but he does not seem to rank with the great Seraphim or Cherubim either, so it would seem that he might be either a Principality or perhaps a Domination.
