First located in Fridley, the Westfield franchise exploded into the MFL with a bang in 1999, winning six of their first seven games before dropping three straight games and stumbling into the postseason with a 9-5 mark. Although they won home-field advantage throughout the postseason, the Westies, (then Ferrets), choked badly, losing in both playoff rounds to finish in a disappointing fourth place.

A similar pattern continued in the 2000 season, where despite a controversial change of location to Westfield Park in Vadnais Heights, a solid second-place finish during the regular season was followed by another playoff meltdown. For the second straight year, the Westies lost in the first round of the postseason and ended their MFL season by losing the third-place game at home to their archrivals, the Minneapolis Freeze.

Westfield is one of the league's top teams, but...
Another year, and another early postseason exit....

Numerous theories abound regarding Westfield's lack of postseason success, but owner Adam Landvik has loyally defended coach Dennis Green, questioning instead some questionable late season roster moves made by the front office. There is no doubting the excellence of Westfield's scouting and personnel departments, and so despite their disappointing tendency to tank in the playoffs, Westfield will be expected to challenge again for the 2001 Loki Cup.
